Academic Curriculum
In every aspect of school life at Sarum Hall, girls are encouraged to develop their learning, thinking and personal skills.
A traditional academic curriculum is delivered through superb teaching, first-rate ICT facilities and modern approaches to learning. Small class sizes, a committed teaching staff and an emphasis on academic excellence enable girls to set themselves high standards in everything they do. Teaching is tailored to girls' particular strengths and abilities and the number of lessons taught by subject specialists increases as girls progress through the school.
Girls are given a thorough grounding in literacy and numeracy leading to the study of discrete subjects such as English, mathematics, science, information technology, religious education, history, geography, French and, in Year 6, Mandarin. These disciplines are enhanced by music, drama, art and physical education at every age. There are numerous opportunities for children to perform in assemblies, recital evenings, plays and concerts. Individual music lessons with peripatetic music teachers are also available. Girls in every year group benefit from computer skills lessons with a specialist information technology teacher and every classroom has an interactive white board.
Through timetabled PSHCE (personal, social, health and citizenship education) and regular sessions with their class teacher, children learn how to be active inhabitants of the changing world in which we live, appreciating social issues and responsibilities.
Curriculum planning, reviewing and updating ensures continuity throughout the school. Sarum Hall's curriculum builds upon both National Curriculum requirements and the practice guidance for the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Sarum Hall prepares girls not just for senior school and university, but for life and the demands of the 21st century. From Year 2 pupils are tested internally in the core subjects of English, maths and science, leading eventually to preparation for their choice of senior school through the 11+ Consortium exams, Common Entrance exams and scholarship papers.
