Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at Sarum Hall encourages girls to be happy, independent and motivated members of the school community. The department is made up of one Nursery and one Reception class, each with one teacher and two teaching assistants.
The national regulatory curriculum for the EYFS is extended and enriched through a variety of activities and opportunities. The curriculum divides into the following six areas:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Communication, Language and Literacy
- Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- Physical Development
- Creative Development
A combination of planned activities together with structured and exploratory play stimulates and extends the natural interests of individuals and groups within the Nursery and Reception settings. Alongside normal classroom activities, Nursery and Reception children enjoy lessons from subject specialists in physical education (PE), music, information and communication technology (ICT) and French lessons (Reception). Reception and Nursery classrooms have interactive whiteboards and computers accessible to the girls, as indeed do all classrooms throughout the school.
The Early Years girls are included in a great deal of whole school activities, such as trips, visits, charity projects and workshops, as well as enjoying opportunities designed specifically for them. Each year the EYFS put on two hugely enjoyable dramatic performances for their parents and carers.
