Geography
Geography is taught throughout the school either in topic areas or as a discrete subject. In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Year 1 Geography is taught as part of cross-curricular topics by the class teacher. In Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 the National Curriculum topics are taught with extension activities.
Geography at Sarum Hall stimulates and interest in and sense of wonder about places. Pupils develop a knowledge and understanding of places, patterns and processes. The key issues of environmental change and sustainable development are explored, building on pupils' own experience to demonstrate how people and places are interconnected.
In Years 2 and 3 Geography is taught as a separate subject by the class teachers. In Years 4 to 6 Geography lessons are taught by the specialist humanities teacher in the Humanities Room. Classes generally have two lessons per week.
At all levels of the school cross-curricular links are made through music, art and dance and trips are organised to support and enhance the children’s learning.
The Geography curriculum is regularly reviewed with the Geography co-ordinator and the purchasing of new textbooks and up-to-date resources reflect this.
