Key Stage One
Key Stage One consists of two classes – Year 1 and Year 2.
Girls progress into Key Stage One in the Autumn Term after their fifth birthday. Each class has a form teacher and a teaching assistant.
In this Key Stage, form teachers are responsible for teaching their classes the majority of academic subjects, with additional specialist teachers for French, physical education (PE), information and communication technology (ICT) and music.
In the Summer Term of Year 2, girls are tested internally in English, maths and science. A variety of external, standardised tests also take place throughout Key Stage One, including reading and spelling age tests.
Homework
Written homework is gradually introduced from Year 1. All girls are also expected to read daily and learn spellings and times tables each week.
Reports and Parent Consultations
Communication and good relationships between staff, parents and pupils are essential if girls are to flourish and fulfil their potential. Parents can discuss progress with teaching staff at any time, as well as by attending the regular consultations held each year.
There is an initial meeting with the class teacher at the beginning of each academic year, followed by a Parent Consultation Evening later that term and a report card at the end of the first term. Another Parent Consultation Evening is held during the Spring or Summer Term and a full report, including any internal examination results, brings each academic year to a close.
