Key Stage Two
Key Stage Two consists of four classes for Years 3 to 6.
Each class has a form teacher, who is also responsible for pastoral care, and a teaching assistant.
In this Key Stage, the number of lessons taught by subject specialists increases as girls progress through the school, including French, physical education (PE), music and information and communication technology (ICT). Specialist science, humanities and drama teaching is introduced in Year 4, working towards an English Speaking Board examination in drama.
Years 5 and 6 are entirely subject taught and Thinking and Study Skills are incorporated into the Year 5 and 6 curriculum as part of their preparation for senior school life.
At the end of the Autumn and Summer Terms, girls are tested internally in English, maths and science. A variety of external, standardised tests also take place throughout Key Stage Two.
Homework
Written homework is introduced on a daily basis from Year 3, up to a maximum of one hour per night in Year 6. All pupils are also expected to read daily and learn spellings and times tables each week.
Reports and Parent Consultations
Communication and good relationships between staff, parents and pupils are essential if girls are to flourish and fulfil their potential. Parents can discuss progress with teaching staff at any time, as well as by attending the regular consultations held each year.
There is an initial meeting with the class teacher at the beginning of the academic year, followed by a Parent Consultation Evening later that term and a report card at the end of the first term. Another Parent Consultation Evening is held in the Spring or Summer Term and a full report, including any examination results, brings each academic year to a close.
