Mathematics

Maths is taught by class teachers until Years 5 and 6 when pupils are taught by a subject specialist. At this stage, particular lessons are taught in half-classes which are set according to ability. When appropriate, extra support is given by the Learning Support teacher or a teaching assistant.

All girls, from Reception onwards, sit a standardised maths test each Spring Term. From the Summer Term of Year 2, girls sit an internal examination each Autumn and Summer Term. Throughout Key Stages 1 and 2 girls are expected to learn times tables as homework each week.

The Head of Early Years oversees the curriculum for Nursery and Reception but liaises with the Head of Maths to ensure that the curriculum is fully integrated. The maths curriculum is regularly reviewed and is in line with the Primary Framework for Numeracy.

My maths teacher is the best teacher ever. She makes all the work fun and interesting. I LOVE maths!

The teachers are very good at explaining things and if you are stuck, the teacher will take as much time as you need to explain.
