Modern Languages

French

French is taught to all pupils from Reception to Year 6 by a subject specialist. The curriculum is based on developing girls’ confidence in the use and understanding of French in real situations.

Emphasis is placed on oral work until Year 2 when written work is introduced. There are strong cross-curricular links and from Year 2 the girls are involved in the production and performance of a French-language assembly each year.

Year 6 girls look forward to spending a week in France where, as well as enjoying themselves immensely, they are submersed in the French language and culture and have the ideal opportunity to practise their language skills.

Mandarin

Reflecting the increasing importance of Mandarin as a world language, Sarum Hall's modern language curriculum introduces Mandarin lessons in Year 6, taught by a specialist native speaker.

The teachers are very good at explaining things and if you are stuck, the teacher will take as much time as you need to explain.
