Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE)
PSHCE is taught by all staff at Sarum Hall through everyday interaction. Form teachers from Nursery to Year 6 deliver planned, structured lessons and 'circle times' during a weekly form period or through discrete lessons. PSHCE by its very nature encourages cross-curricular thinking and learning and this is embraced by form and subject teachers alike. Assemblies based on PSHCE themes allow for whole-school discussion.
At Sarum Hall PSHCE supports children in their growing understanding of relationships, to understand their own feelings and emotions and the feelings and emotions of others. We strive to teach children skills and processes which will enable them to be happy and fulfilled individuals in a healthy, supportive environment. The curriculum incorporates the issues of spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development, as well as preparing children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
Sex and relationship education is delivered by the Headmistress during Year 6 and appropriate specialist teachers are also brought in from outside organisations. When Year 6 complete the 11+ examinations, increased emphasis is placed on PSHCE in helping girls prepare for life at secondary school and beyond. Invited specialist speakers lead sessions on a variety of issues relevant to this period of transition, such as relaxation techniques for reducing anxiety.
