Science
Science is taught by class teachers up to and including Year 3. In Years 4 to 6 pupils are taught by a science specialist in the laboratory. From the mid-point of Year 4 groups are split into half classes and set by ability.
The laboratory is well-resourced for scientific investigations, in terms of both textbooks and modern equipment. Resources for the younger girls are kept in the relevant classrooms and all year groups have access to scientific equipment appropriate to their age. All teaching is practical-based and cross-curricular whenever possible.
Science examinations are taken from Year 3 and those sitting Common Entrance 11+ are offered extra classes for one term before the examination. Girls complete the National Curriculum Level 5 syllabus as a minimum. The British Science Association’s CREST Star Investigators scheme runs throughout the school.
The Head of Early Years oversees the curriculum for Nursery and Reception but liaises with the Head of Science to ensure that the curriculum is fully integrated. The science curriculum at Sarum Hall reflects and enhances the National Curriculum to incorporate the Common Entrance Syllabus at 11+ and is reviewed annually.
