KS1 and KS2

Key Stage 1 consists of year groups Year 1 and Year 2. Key Stage 2 consists of Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Each class has a form tutor who is responsible for the pupils’ pastoral care and a Teaching and Learning Assistant to support them.

KS1

Form teachers teach their forms the majority of academic subjects: English, maths, history, geography and RE.  Pupils are taught by subject specialist teachers for modern foreign languages, PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic), physical education (PE), computing, art & design, science, music and drama.

Key Stage 1 builds on the learning experiences in the Early Years Foundation Stage. The curriculum is broad and balanced, going beyond the national curriculum and girls learn skills, as well as knowledge. At Christmas, both Year 1 and 2 girls perform in a production.

KS2

Subject specialist teaching increases as our pupils progress through the school. Modern foreign languages, physical education (PE), science, art & design, music and computing are taught by subject specialists.  In Years 5 and 6, our pupils are taught by a specialist English, maths and humanities teachers.

Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning skills are developed from Years 4 to 6. In Years 5 and 6, Thinking and Study Skills are incorporated into the curriculum as part of their preparation for senior school life. The curriculum remains broad and balanced, and preparation for the 11+ exams in Year 6 begins in Year 5.

After the pupils in Year 6 have obtained their 11+ results in the Spring Term, they practise and perform in a dramatic production through which they further develop acting, singing and dancing skills. Pupils in Years 4 to 6 go on residential trips which, as well as being great fun, encourage independence and teamwork skills.

“Why did we choose Sarum Hall? Its reputation and our observations on the school’s value system and pastoral care, and how they raise the girls in addition to educating them. Also their commitment to music, the arts and extra-curricular activities.”
