In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) we encourage girls to be happy, independent and motivated members of the school community. We have one Nursery class and one Reception class, each with one lead by a teacher and supported by two Teaching and Learning Assistants.
The Framework and Development Matters for the EYFS are extended and enriched through a variety of learning opportunities. The curriculum covers seven areas of a child’s development, three Prime Areas that are key to allow children to develop and learn and four Specific Areas that support these:
Prime Areas:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language Development
Specific Areas:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Art and Design
A combination of planned activities together with structured and exploratory play stimulates and extends the natural interests of our pupils. Alongside classroom activities lead by the form tutor, the girls enjoy lessons from subject specialists in physical education (PE), music, computing and French. The classrooms have interactive whiteboards and computers accessible to the girls.
The Early Years girls are an important part of the school community and are included in many of the whole school activities, such as trips, visits, charity projects and workshops, as well as enjoying opportunities designed specifically for them. At Christmas and the end of the summer term, the EYFS put on hugely enjoyable dramatic performances for their parents and carers.
